Golf Déjà Vu & Firefighter Updates! ⛳🚒 October Wrap-Up from Coach Rye
October flew by in a blur of fall colors, crisp air, and some interesting developments on multiple fronts. Let me catch you up on what’s been happening!
⛳ Golf: A Funny Full Circle Moment
I finally got back on a full 18-hole course this month, my first time since over 5 years ago back in Manila. And here’s the kicker: I scored 118. Exactly what I scored the first time. 😅
Is it a sign I’m at the same skill level? Maybe. But I’m choosing to see it as a funny coincidence and, more importantly, a reminder to stay consistent this time around. The good news is Alaine and I continue to play Par3 regularly, and she’s really getting more consistent with her game. It’s been great watching her progress!
🚒 Volunteer Firefighter: Physical Assessment Complete!
Big update on the firefighter front. I got called in for the physical assessment! It involved about 7 different exercises, and honestly, it wasn’t particularly challenging since I’ve been running and hitting the gym consistently.
But here’s the exciting part: they had us climb up and hit the ladder on the truck. That moment made everything feel real and got my adrenaline pumping!
I was super excited and nervous going into it, but I think I did well. Now I’m back in waiting mode for updates. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏻
🎬 Content Pivot: Back to Coaching
I’ve started creating content again, but with a different focus this time. I’m diving back into what I genuinely enjoy most, helping leaders and entrepreneurs.
The shift away from immigration content wasn’t easy, but here’s the reality: the journey to Canada specifically feels a bit scary these days with all the policy changes happening. I don’t want to encourage people toward the unknown or push them into situations I can’t fully vouch for right now.
So I’m focusing on strengths-based topics, particularly CliftonStrengths, aimed at leaders and small business owners. I’m creating mostly reels and LinkedIn videos, short-form content that delivers value quickly.
The response? Not explosive yet, just some likes and comments here and there. But that’s okay. I’m building something sustainable that aligns with what I’m passionate about.
Speaking of which – how familiar are you with CliftonStrengths? I’m curious to know where my audience is with this. Are you already using it? Never heard of it? Tried it once but didn’t know what to do with the results? Reply and let me know!
🦃 Thanksgiving Gratitude
We had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner with The Negronis, and it was exactly what the holiday should be: good food and even better company.
The turkey was super tasty and juicy. The paella was awesome. Pizza and chicken were great too. And of course, Alaine’s Creamy Baked Salmon was a hit as always (seriously, she nails this dish every time).
When I think about what I’m most thankful for this year, it’s simple: family and friends. The people who show up, who celebrate with you, who make life richer just by being part of it.
🍂 Fall Walks & Winter Prep
October weather has been perfect for long walks with Alaine. We’ve been exploring Mill Creek Nature Park and Irishtown Nature Park regularly. There’s something special about fall in New Brunswic -– the colors, the crisp air, the feeling that you should soak up every nice day before winter arrives.
And yes, we’re already dreading and preparing for winter. It’s the Canadian way, right? Enjoy fall while mentally bracing for what’s coming! 🇨🇦

💭 Looking Ahead
November will hopefully bring news on the firefighter application, more consistency with content creation, and probably our last few golf outings before winter truly sets in. I’m also planning to dive deeper into the CliftonStrengths content based on what I hear from you all.
Thanks for sticking with me through all these pivots and evolutions. Your continued support means everything, even when the content direction shifts.
More power to you,
Coach Rye
P.S. Seriously, let me know about your familiarity with CliftonStrengths! And if you’re on LinkedIn, come say HI! I’d love to connect there! 🤝
