Privacy Policy for Contact Notes

This Privacy Policy describes how the “Contact Notes” Chrome Extension (“the Extension”) handles your data. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your data remains yours.

1. Core Philosophy: Your Data is Local

The Extension is designed to be a private, local-only tool. We do not collect, transmit, store, or sell any of your personal data or browsing history to external servers. All data generated by the Extension lives exclusively on your own device.

2. What Data the Extension Handles

To function properly, the Extension processes the following information:

• LinkedIn Profile Data: When you use the Extension on a LinkedIn profile, it reads the profile’s URL and the name from the page title.
• Your Notes: Any text notes you type into the Extension are saved.

Where this data goes: All of this information is saved directly to your browser’s local storage (chrome.storage.local). It never leaves your computer. We (the developers) have no access to your notes, your contacts, or your LinkedIn activity.

3. Why We Request Specific Permissions

The Extension requires certain browser permissions strictly to provide its core functionality:

• storage: Used to save, read, and delete your personal notes locally on your device.
• tabs & activeTab: Used to detect when you navigate to a new LinkedIn profile so the Extension can update its icon status, and to securely read the profile name of the currently active tab.
• https://www.linkedin.com/* (Host Permission): Used to allow the Extension to read the title of the LinkedIn page you are actively viewing in order to attach your notes to the correct person.

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

Because we do not collect your data, we do not share, sell, or rent your data to any third parties. There are no external analytics trackers, advertising scripts, or remote code embedded in the Extension.

5. User Control and Data Deletion

You have full control over your data at all times:

• Export: You can download a text file of all your saved notes directly from the Extension’s menu.
• Delete: You can delete individual notes or contacts within the Extension’s interface.
• Complete Removal: Uninstalling the Extension from your Chrome browser will permanently and irreversibly delete all notes and data saved by the Extension.

6. Changes to this Policy

If we add new features in the future (such as optional integrations with other local software like Obsidian), we will update this Privacy Policy to reflect any changes in data handling.
