Let’s Talk About Love

After all, it is the LOVE month with Valentines day just around the corner.

OK, to be honest, I am not really a big fan of that day.

Partly because I never had Valentine dates growing up (*sob*) but also because I am a cheap practical guy. Seriously a thousand pesos for a bouquet of simple flowers… that’s more than twice the usual rate. However, let me clarify that despite my negative feelings for Valentine’s day, I am a big fan of LOVE. 😀

FIRST THING’S FIRST

Whenever the subject of love comes up, I always start with this simple question.

What Is Love?

Yes, it seems like one of those cheesy / mushy questions you used to ask your high school friends, but I believe it is a very important question. How we answer it determines our actions when we are “in love”.

So today, I will share my favourite definition of love. This is something I learned way back in Uni and which, I believe, still remains true today. I believe it so much that I cannot even count the number of conversations I’ve used this in.

Love is the will to extend one’s self for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth.

— Scott Peck, Road Less Traveled

With no more than twenty words, it may seem simple but once you break this further down you will see the huge responsibility that love entails.

A Will.
Extending One’s Self.
Nurturing One’s Spiritual Growth.
Nurturing Another’s Spiritual Growth.

How about you? How Do You Define Love?
