I first read about Bonchon Chicken from Our Awesome Planet and have read and read a lot of raves about it for quiet sometime now. So when my brother suggested that we try it last weekend, I was all for it.
So, how was it? Overrated.
It was crispy, OK… so? The flavor of the secret sauce was OK, but nothing special for me.
The worst part was the size of the Chops (breast fillet) that we ordered. Anton said that “Bon Chon is the original double-fried chicken from Korea. The first fry removes all the fat and makes it “paper-fried crisp” and then the second fry includes the secret sauce.” but I didn’t know it would be paper-thin as well. Ok, I’m exaggerating a bit but I was really disappointed.
Would I try it again? Probably, but it’s definitely not something that I’d crave for out of the blue.
Editor’s Note: I am not sure about this but I think I’ve had Bonchon Chicken back in high school. A Korean classmate’s mother used to cook these extra crispy chicken when we hanged-out at his place.
